Welcome to DottzGaming.com’s Magicka Templar PvE DPS Build, Radiant Justice, for the Elder Scrolls Online! This build is meant for PvE dungeons, trials and solo play. This Magicka Templar build has recommendations for end game gear as well as alternatives that are easier to acquire.  The rotations are not overly difficult, but may need some practice time in front of a target dummy. This build works well in groups and also shines in solo play because of the amount of self healing available for Magicka Templars, as well as minor sorcery group buffs and faster resurrection times for fallen group members.

Gear Alternatives

Gear Slot Set Weight
Head/Shoulder Zaan (Veteran Scalecaller Peak) Zaan is actually stronger than Valkyn Skoria but you are forced to play closer to your target (within 10 meters).
Any Julianos (Crafted) Law of Julianos is a solid crafted set that is easy to acquire as it is crafted.
Perfected Mantle of Siroria Mantle of Siroria The non-perfected version is useable until you can obtain the perfected versions. The perfected versions can be acquired in Veteran Cloudrest trial if you complete the +1 configuration of the trial.
Maelstrom Inferno Staff Spell Strategist Inferno Staff The vMA inferno staff can take time to obtain. Using a Spell Strategist inferno staff in the interim is perfectly fine, but with lower DPS. You can also use a vMA lightning staff if you acquire that before the inferno staff.
Any Willpower You can use 3pc Willpower jewelry until you can acquire the more advanced sets.
Any Moondancer Moondancer is a solid set that you can acquire in Maw of Lorkhaj.
Spell Strategist Mother’s Sorrow Mother’s Sorrow is a perfectly viable alternative here that you can farm in Deshaan or buy from a guild trader. It’s superior to Spell Strategist if you face multiple enemies. Spell Strategist is superior facing a single enemy, such as a trial boss.

note on the weight of each armor piece. If you have a heavy helmet, you can go with that and instead use a medium chest piece and light legs (if you use a crafted set). If you are having trouble sustaining magicka, consider 1 magicka recovery glyph on a piece of jewelry.

The reason that the Maelstrom staff is on the back bar is because it’s power comes out when used with blockade. A blockade using the staff will increase the damage of your light and heavy attacks.

If you do not have transmute crystals for your jewelry, it’s fine to run 3x arcane jewelry as well. It’s not as strong but will work fine.

All points into Magicka.

Skill Explanation

  1. Vampire’s Bane– This skill offers a long lasting DoT on the target. The alternative morph is Reflective Light which hits up to 3 targets but with reduced duration. If you care more for mass target damage or play PvP, go with Reflective Light. Vampire’s Bane however offers higher single target damage. The duration of this skill is a bit longer than most and don’t fit really well into a timed rotation. It’s easier just to reapply it at the same point in your rotation, but if you like, you can watch its timers and reapply as it expires, which can improve your overall sustain a bit.
  2. Purifying Light– This skill is cast right before our spammable attack (elemental weapon) in the rotation because the target will soak up our burst damage and take even more damage after the duration expires. This skill also offers a small but useful group heal after it expires.
  3. Elemental Weapon – We use this skill to greatly empower our next light attack. It also applies a random status effect on our target (burning, concussed, or chilled).
  4. Radiant Oppression– This is our execute.
  5. Inner Light– We use this skill because it boosts our max magicka by quite a bit which in turns lets us do more damage. It’s spell critical boost is also nice even if we get that from Vampire’s Bane.
  6. Empowering Sweep– We don’t typically use this ultimate but having it slotted increases our critical damage done for all skills on that bar.
  7. Elemental Blockade– Your bread and butter wide area AoE DoT. The fire blockade does more damage to an already Burning target.
  8. Blazing Spear– Our other bread and butter AoE DoT. It’s range is smaller than Elemental Blockade. Also having it slotted increases our critical damage done for all skills on the front bar.
  9. Channeled Focus– This skill provides us extra resistances as well as magicka return over time. Keep this up as much as possible.
  10. Harness Magicka– This is our shield. Use it as needed in situations where you might get hit hard and can’t always block. Note that shields are not as strong in Murkmire as in prior versions so use at your discretion. It might be better to simply try to avoid being hit by moving or dodging.
  11. Elemental Rage –  Our primary ultimate. Massive damage over time. Especially good on boss fights as its radius is not really large.
  12. Channeled Acceleration – This skill provides us with 36 seconds of minor force, i.e. a small boost to our critical hit damage.

Alternative Skills:

  1. If you do not have the Psijic Order skills, you can use Force Pulse or Crushing Shock for your spammable attack. Crushing Shock has slightly lower damage but very high group utility in dungeons and trials in that you can interrupt enemies from a distance. This is equivalent to doing a bash from melee range.
  2. Same as in #1, an alternative to channeled acceleration is to use Rearming Trap from the Fighter’s guild. You have to stand at close range however. If you prefer not to do that, slot Inner Light on your back bar instead for a max magicka boost.
  3. An alternative to the harness magicka shield is dampen magic. This shield is slightly stronger but will not restore any magicka to you if you are hit.

Rotation & Resource Management

Boss Fight

Begin on Back Bar

Ranged Playstyle Rotation:

Channeled Focus (every other rotation) -> Channeled Acceleration (every 4th rotation) -> Swap

Ultimate (if available) -> Light Attack -> Blazing Spear -> Swap

Blockade of Fire -> Light Attack -> Vampire’s Bane -> Light Attack -> Swap

Purifying Light -> Light Attack -> (Elemental Weapon -> Light Attack (do this sequence 4x)) -> Ultimate (if available) -> Blazing Spear -> Swap

Blockade of Fire -> Light Attack -> Vampire’s Bane -> Light Attack -> Swap

Start over at Purifying Light

Keep Channeled Focus and Channeled Acceleration up always.

When target reaches 25% health, replace the elemental weapon sequence with radiant oppression.

If you have difficulties sustaining 4x elemental weapon, reduce it to 3x. Blazing Spear is one of your highest damage skills, and if you see that its expiring while you’re in the middle of your elemental weapon sequence, reapply it for best damage output and then skip it at the end of the sequence. You’ll want to spend time in front of a target dummy practicing this. Configure S’rendarr addon (if on PC) to show various timers on your screen so you can monitor your DoT timers. Allowing DoTs to expire is usually one of the reasons some struggle to maximize their DPS output. The rotation sequence described above isn’t a magical recipe for success. You often need to tailor it to your specific needs and the speed at which you weave a rotation. Use it as a template for developing your own rotation.

Tips & Misc.

You want to be a vampire for this build.

When a situation gets rough, be sure to cast Harness Magicka to be able to survive. A dead dps does no dps.

As a templar, you resurrect people quickly and bring them back with full health instead of half health. When someone in your group goes down, be sure to be the one to go and pick them up.

If you play solo or in a group with ineffective heals, slot Ritual of Retribution. It can cleanse harmful effects and is a heal over time for you and your friends as well as a DoT for your enemies. If you prefer big heals without cleansing harmful effects and damage to enemies, slot Breath of Life instead.
