Welcome to DottzGaming.com’s Magicka Templar PvE DPS Build, Radiant Justice, for the Elder Scrolls Online! This build is meant for PvE dungeons, trials and solo play. This Magicka Templar build has recommendations for end game gear as well as alternatives that are easier to acquire.  The rotations are not overly difficult, but may need some practice time in front of a target dummy. This build works well in groups and also shines in solo play because of the amount of self healing available for Magicka Templars, as well as minor sorcery group buffs and faster resurrection times for fallen group members.

Gear Alternatives
Gear Slot Set Weight
Illambris Valkyn Skoria (vCOA 2)
Grothdarr (vVOM)
Zaan (vSP)
Valkyn Skoria procs on DoT effects which as Templar you have plenty of. It offers more health than Ilambris and less magicka so expect a slight DPS loss but more survivability. Ilambris can also proc on both the fire damage you do with the asylum staff and vampire’s bane and the shock damage from blockade simultaneously.

If you favor the melee range playstyle, Grothdarr is a very good set as your target will be in your flame range. This set would be preferred over Ilambris in this case.

Zaan is a strong alternative for the melee range playstyle as its range is only 10 meters.

Julianos Kagrenac’s Hope (Crafted Kagrenac’s Hope is an excellent set for a DPS/off-heal trial player as it speeds up resurrection time. Pair it with Templar’s already faster resurrection time and you can get players up really fast. You will have slightly lower DPS with this set however.
Perfected Asylum Inferno
Normal Asylum Inferno
Staff or Moondancer
Inferno Staff
The Normal Asylum Inferno staff procs burning on 3 force shock hits instead of 2 for perfected. It’s still a good weapon but you will have somewhat less uptime on the burning effect. If you favor the close playstyle rotation, use the Moondancer Inferno Staff instead as you can’t proc the asylum staff with Puncturing Sweeps.
Maelstrom Lightning Staff Moondancer Lightning Staff The vMA lightning staff can take time to obtain. Using a Moondancer staff in the interim is perfectly fine, but with lower DPS.
Moondancer Willpower You can use 3pc Willpower jewelry until you can acquire the more advanced sets.
Moondancer Infallible Mage Infallible Mage is a good alternative but will provide slightly lower DPS.

A note on the weight of each armor piece. If you have a heavy helmet, you can go with
that and instead use a medium chest piece and light legs. An infused helmet is also
acceptable as it will boost the magicka glyph which also in turn increases the damage of
your spells. Divines would be ever so slightly better but not by much.  If you are having trouble sustaining magicka, consider 1 magicka recovery glyph on a piece of jewelry.

All points into Magicka.

Main Bar – Inferno Staff

1: Vampire’s Bane (Dawn’s Wrath line morph of Sun Fire)
2: Purifying Light (Dawn’s Wrath line morph of Backlash)
3: Crushing Shock (Destruction Staff line morph of Force Shock)
4: Harness Magicka (Light Armor line morph of Annulment)
5: Inner Light (Mage’s Guild line morph of Magelight)
Ultimate: Empowering Sweep (Aedric Spear line morph of Radial Sweep)

Back Bar – Lightning Staff

1: Elemental Blockade (Destruction Staff line morph of Wall of Elements)
2: Blazing Spear (Aedric Spear line morph of Spear Shards)
3: Channeled Focus (Restoring Light line morph of Rune Focus)
4: Radiant Oppression (Dawn’s Wrath line morph of Radiant Destruction)
5: Inner Light (Mage’s Guild line morph of Magelight)
Ultimate: Elemental Rage (Destruction Staff line morph of Elemental Storm)

Skill Explanation

  1. Vampire’s Bane – This skill offers a long lasting DoT on the target. The alternative morph is Reflective Light which hits up to 3 targets but with reduced duration. If you care more for mass target damage or play PvP, go with Reflective Light. Vampire’s Bane however offers higher single target damage.
  2. Purifying Light – This skill is cast right before our spammable attack in the rotation because the target will soak up our burst damage and take even more damage after the duration expires. This skill also offers a small but useful group heal after it expires.
  3. Crushing Shock – We use the Crushing Shock morph because of its utility in trials. It can be a life saver to be able to interrupt channeling enemies (e.g. Yokeda Kai in HRC or S’kinrai in MoL). The Force Pulse morph offers slightly higher DPS but at a loss of a critical group utility function.
  4. Radiant Oppression – This is our execute.
  5. Inner Light – We use this skill because it boosts our max magicka by quite a bit which in turns lets us do more damage. It’s spell critical boost is also nice even if we get that from Vampire’s Bane.
  6. Empowering Sweep – We don’t typically use this ultimate but having it slotted increases our critical damage done for all skills on the front bar.
  7. Elemental Blockade – Your bread and butter wide area AoE DoT. Can proc concussion and off-balance.
  8. Blazing Spear – Our other bread and butter AoE DoT. It’s range is smaller than Elemental Blockade. Also having it slotted increases our critical damage done for all skills on the back bar.
  9. Channeled Focus – This skill provides us extra resistances as well as magicka return over time. Keep this up as much as possible.
  10. Harness Magicka – This is our shield. Use it as needed in situations where you might get hit hard and can’t always block.
  11. Elemental Rage –  Our primary ultimate. Massive damage over time. Especially good on boss fights as its radius is not really large.

Other Important Info

Buff Food

Solitude Salmon-Millet Soup (Health+Magicka Blue Food) or Witchmother’s Potent Brew (Health+Magicka+Magicka Recovery Purple Drink) if you’re having trouble sustaining. If you do this, be sure to adjust your attribute points to ensure that you have at least 17K health.

The Apprentice Stone – Spell Damage

1: High Elf: Offers the largest magicka pool as well as the highest damage available to Magicka Templars.

2: Dark Elf/Breton: Both are good choices in their own right, Bretons have the best sustain and Dark Elves offer some extra utility with more max stamina for roll dodging and breaking free.

Essence of Spell Power (Corn Flower + Lady’s Smock)
Note: If the potion contains spell-critical, it will override your inner light and you won’t
have 100% uptime on major prophecy. This is why we omit it for this potion.

All class passives, all destruction staff passives, all light armor passives, heavy armor (resolve, constitution, juggernaut), all vampire passives, all mages guild passives, all undaunted passives, all racial passives, alchemy (medicinal use)

Rotation & Resource Management

Boss Fight

Begin on Back Bar

Ranged Playstyle Rotation:

Channeled Focus (every other rotation) -> Light Attack -> Elemental Blockade ->Light Attack -> Blazing Spear -> Elemental Rage (if ready) -> Swap

Light Attack -> Vampire’s Bane -> Light Attack -> Purifying Light -> Light Attack -> Crushing Shock -> Light Attack -> Crushing Shock -> Light Attack -> Crushing Shock -> Swap and restart

Melee Range Playstyle Rotation:

Channeled Focus (every other rotation) -> Light Attack -> Elemental Blockade ->Light Attack -> Blazing Spear -> Elemental Rage (if ready) -> Swap

Light Attack -> Vampire’s Bane -> Light Attack -> Purifying Light -> Light Attack -> Puncturing Sweeps -> Light Attack -> Puncturing Sweeps -> Swap and restart

  • If you’re low on magicka, do 1 or 2 heavy attacks on your back bar after Blazing Spear.
  • When the boss reaches 35% health, stay entirely on back bar and do Radiant Oppression after Blazing Spear and when the boss drops below 20% health, just use Radiant Oppression.
  • Use potions off cooldown and use your ultimate whenever it’s available

AoE Fights

Place down all your DoTs and then heavy attack with a lightning staff, the splash damage is more than enough for fighting mobs.

Tips & Misc.

You want to be a vampire for this build.

When a situation gets rough, be sure to cast Harness Magicka to be able to survive. A dead dps does no dps.

As a templar, you resurrect people quickly and bring them back with full health instead of half health. When someone in your group goes down, be sure to be the one to go and pick them up.

If you play solo or in a group with ineffective heals, slot Ritual of Retribution. It can cleanse harmful effects and is a heal over time for you and your friends as well as a DoT for your enemies. If you prefer big heals without cleansing harmful effects and damage to enemies, slot Breath of Life instead.
