ESO Werewolf vs Vampire (In Depth)

This guide is an in depth comparison between werewolves and vampires in the elder scrolls online, and it will help you decide which (if either) is the right choice for you! Time stamps are near the beginning of the video if you choose to watch the guide, so if there is only a specific part you’re looking for, you don’t have to sift through the whole video just to find it. I would though still recommend watching the whole thing so that you understand both werewolves and vampires completely and which will be the best for your character.

The list of passives can be found on the video. If you want to read the passives instead of watching them, the vampire passives can be found here, and the werewolf ones here.

Keep in mind being a vampire or a werewolf leaves you open to some fighter’s guild abilities, mainly Dawnbreaker which will hit you hard in a PvP environment.

To actually become a vampire or a werewolf, you need to contract vampirism or lycanthropy respectively.  To do this, you have a couple options:

  1. Contract it from a player
    1. This is the one I recommend the most. You can have a guild-mate give you vampirism or lycanthropy by going to either a vampire or werewolf shrine with that player in your party and having them bite you. You will contract the disease and the quest to get the skill line should appear within the shrine area.
    2. Don’t pay someone to bite you. There are plenty of people who will do it for free.
  2. Purchase it off of the crown store.
  3. Be bitten by NPCs in specific locations. The vampire and werewolf NPCs that can give you the disease spawn at specific locations, you can’t just be bitten by any ol’ vampire or werewolf. ¬†Players do like to grief these spots too… but, if you still want to do it this way, here are the spawn locations of the vampires and the werewolves.

Should you become a werewolf or a vampire?

Ultimately, it is up to you. It isn’t mandatory, but these are when you should consider it.

  • Werewolf
    • If you’re a stamina player. Sorry magicka players, but werewolf is only for stamina users.
    • You actually want to use werewolf form. You don’t get much benefit from lycanthropy without using the werewolf form.
    • Werewolves are a bit weak right now, so unless your build focuses on werewolf form, I would not recommend werewolf.
  • Vampirism
    • You want more recovery in your build.
      • Vampirism can be used by anyone who wants more recovery, since Vampire’s get 10% more stamina AND magicka recovery.
    • You want the Undeath passive to take less damage at lower health.
    • Vampires are generally good for everyone right now except squishy melee dps. Everyone else though can definitely benefit from being a vampire!

If you are a vampire or a werewolf and you want to cure it, you need to go to the mage’s guild in one of the following cities:

  • Bangkorai
  • Riften
  • Rawl’kha
