ESO Character Build Checklist
Ever wonder if you’re missing something in your ESO Build? Can’t get your stats to line up the same as the build guide your following? This guide will help you by showing EVERYTHING you need to make sure you have when putting a build together!
Other relevant guides that will help you understand this checklist are as follows:
- CP Jump Points
- Racial Passives Guide
- Complete Crafting Guide
- Mundus Stone Guide
- PvP Builds
- PvE Builds
- Champion Points
- CP 300
- Reaching this milestone is incredibly important because as you gain champion points up to this amount, you also gain stats that correspond to the color of the CP that you gain (red is health, green is stamina and blue is magicka).
- Making sure to adhere to jump points is incredibly important. Refer to the guide listed above to make sure you’re adhering to jump points when placing your CP.
- CP 300
- Buff food
- Buff food is mandatory to have on any build. Without buff food, you are missing a massive amount of stats. Some of the best buff foods to have (that are also easy to acquire) are:
- Dubious Camoran Throne
- Witchmother’s Potent Brew
- Ghastly Eye Bowl
- Lave Foot Soup-and-Saltrice
- Longfin Pasty with Melon Sauce
- Braised Rabbit with Spring Vegetables
- Mistral Banana Bunny Hash
- Buff food is mandatory to have on any build. Without buff food, you are missing a massive amount of stats. Some of the best buff foods to have (that are also easy to acquire) are:
- Mundus Stone
- Gives you an extra boost to a chosen stat. Best mundus is going to depend on your build, class/role and what content you’re running.
- Attributes Properly Placed
- In general, for stamina DPS, all points will go into stamina. For magicka DPS and healers, all points will go into magicka. Also, in terms of your HP pool, you want to try and have 16k-17k HP for PvE and at least 25k for PvP. Refer to the enchant section for more information on how to achieve proper health amounts.
- For tanks, your attributes will vary based on your build. In general, the goal is 35k HP, and having your stamina higher than your magicka so that when you use certain synergies you restore your stamina and not your magicka.
- Race
- Having a proper race that compliments your playstyle is incredibly important. Make sure to choose a good race for your build (guide listed at the top).
- Gear
- You’re going to want to make sure that you have the following things on your gear to make sure your setup is as proper as possible.
- Traits
- Make sure you have impenetrable/critical resistance whenever you’re PvP’ing to dampen incoming burst. You do not need this for PvE content since mobs do not crit.
- Magicka DPS, Stamina DPS and Healers will take advantage of divines in PvE.
- Tanks will be utilizing Infused on large pieces (head, legs and chest) and Sturdy on small pieces and shields.
- Make sure all of your gear, jewelry and weapons are enchanted. You can refer to the video at the top for more information on this section (this section can be found at about 8:00).
- Magicka DPS and Healers will want a combination of Magicka and Prismatic Defense enchants. A pure health glyph can be used if your health is too low.
- Stamina DPS will want a combination of Stamina and Prismatic Defense enchants. A pure health glyph can be used if your health is too low.
- Tank enchants will vary based on build, race, etc. Specific glyph combinations depend on too many factors. Again, the goal is to achieve 35k HP, and having your max stamina higher than your magicka.
- Gear Weights
- Magicka DPS and Healers will want to make sure to run 5 light pieces of gear (to get all of the needed armor line passives), 1 piece of heavy and 1 piece of medium. These 1 pieces of the different gear weights help you maximize the return from the Undaunted Mettle passive from the Undaunted skill line.
- Stamina DPS will want to make sure to run 5 medium pieces of gear (to get all of the needed armor line passives), 1 piece of heavy and 1 piece of light. These 1 pieces of the different gear weights help you maximize the return from the Undaunted Mettle passive from the Undaunted skill line.
- Tanks will want to make sure to run 5 heavy pieces of gear (to get all of the needed armor line passives), 1 piece of light and 1 piece of medium. These 1 pieces of the different gear weights help you maximize the return from the Undaunted Mettle passive from the Undaunted skill line.
- You get the most return armor wise from your chest, followed by head/shoulder/legs/boots, followed by gloves and then belt. Keep this in mind when assigning your armor weights to certain pieces!
- Gear Rarity
- Weapons MUST be gold quality; you’ll be missing on a huge amount of damage/healing if your weapons are not gold quality. Everything else on your character can get away being purple quality. In my opinion, the money you spend golding other gear pieces versus the return you get is simply not worth it.
- Enchant Rarity
- Head, Chest and Leg enchants, weapon enchants and jewelry enchants should be gold quality due to how much return you get from golding these. Small armor piece enchants can remain purple since the return from golding them out is incredibly small.
- Traits
- You’re going to want to make sure that you have the following things on your gear to make sure your setup is as proper as possible.
- Skills
- Skills will vary greatly based on class/role, but you want to make sure you have certain buffs when playing. Do note that these passives can come from a variety of sources, such as skills, potions, etc.
- Major Resolve: Important buff for ALL players in PvP, and tanks in PvE. Increases spell/physical resistances by 5280.
- Major Sorcery: Important buff for magicka dps and healers. Increases spell damage by 20%.
- Major Brutality: Important buff for stamina dps. Increases weapon damage by 20%.
- Major Prophecy: Important buff for magicka dps and healers. Increases spell critical by about 10%.
- Major Savagery: Important buff for stamina dps. Increases Weapon Critical by about 10%
- Major Intellect: Important buff for magicka dps and healers. Increases magicka recovery by 20%.
- Major Endurance: Important buff for stamina dps. Increases stamina recovery by 20%.
- Note: Tanks should have sources of both major intellect and endurance since they need both sources of recovery.
- Skills will vary greatly based on class/role, but you want to make sure you have certain buffs when playing. Do note that these passives can come from a variety of sources, such as skills, potions, etc.

- Vampire/Werewolf passives if you’re using one of these things
