Attributes

  • 24 Magicka
  • 12 Health
  • 28 Stamina

Note: Due to recent changes in Champion Points System, you can easily get the 35-40k Health without having to use as many Attribute Points as prior updates, which in turn also gives you more stats for your magicka and stamina to help sustain as your role much more easily. Make notes as to what sets you are running on your tank, and balance the Attribute Points accordingly so you are able to have the appropriate stats to be a sufficient tank for your group.

Resource Management & Rotation

As a tank, there isn’t a set rotation such as a DPS has. Instead, it is just doing these:

  1. Maintain agro or taunts on enemies and bosses.
  2. Use shields as needed to help protect against attacks.
  3. Keep buffs up as often as needed and use synergies when available.

Tips & Misc.

Gear

Overland: If wanting to just use overland sets on your tank besides warrior-poet, one in particular is especielly meant if you’re trying to be more of a health tank. The set called Plague Doctor (Deshaan) would be another great option for that, as well as if a group member uses war horn you still get the buffs when activated. Warrior-Poet (Vvardenfell) would be another great option since it has the health buff at all times, it just won’t give you additional health when it’s used.

Crafted: For other crafted gear options, there are surprisingly quite a few good gear sets to use as a tank role. other options include: armor master, song of lamae, shacklebreaker, and fortified brass. So if you’re wanting the buff, using plague doctor or any of the listed crafting sets will still let you get that while still being able to do your role.

Dungeons/Trials: There are also options in gear sets from dungeons and trials once you get accustomed to your own playstyle as a tank role. Some of those options include: Ebon Armory (Crypt of Hearts 1 & 2), Brands of Imperium (White-Gold Tower), Footman’s Fortune (Dragonstar Arena), Aegis of Galanwe (Cloudrest), and Roar of Alkosh (Medium, Maw of Lorkhaj).

Monster Sets: Other options for monster set can be Stonekeeper (frostvault), Symphony of Blades (Depths of Malatar), Troll King (Blessed Crucible), and Pirate Skeleton (Blackheart Haven).

Skills

Because this setup can be versatile, your skill bars can also be easily switched based on what it is you’re running at the time. Where the flex slot is above (Heroic Slash), you can fill it in with any of these skills listed to fit your style: deep breath, shielded assault, absorb magic, ring of preservation, or even symbiosis from the new psijic skill line. Like i did for my setup, just be open to try things out for yourself. Once you feel like you’ve got a hang for it, go try it out in a dungeon or even a trial if ya got the burn. You won’t know til you actually run it in action.
