Welcome to one of Dottzgaming.com’s Magicka Warden PvP builds, Ice Smelter, for the Elder Scrolls Online written by Nirnstorm!

This build uses the power of all three types of elemental damage to deal massive amounts damage to your enemies, cover huge areas with aoe damage, and allow you to take down tanky targets, all while being able to tank out a lot of damage yourself and heal through it.

Keep in mind that PvP builds are very personal. This is what worked for ME. If you don’t like something about it, change it to fit your playstyle.

Gear Explanation

Blood Spawn: This set is a great way to generate our ultimate and increase our resistances a huge amount at the same time. When you have several dots or players attacking you, the uptime on bloodspawn can easily reach 70-80% which makes it an extremely useful defensive set that allows you to use your ultimate to go either offensive or defensive a lot more frequently. If you don’t like Blood Spawn, and would like to use a more damaging monster set, I recommend using the Balorgh set.

Necropotence:  The strongest set in the game for max magicka stacking. Since we have our betty netch skill to constantly keep the 5th piece bonus active, this set fits our build perfectly and allows us to have 100% uptime of a lot more max magicka, which will give us more damage and stronger shields.

Ice Furnace:  This sets deals a sizable amount of damage to all enemies in an 8 meters range whenever you hit a target with frost damage. This big explosion can repeat itself every single second when you damage a target. Since we use a lot of frost-damage skills on this build, Ice Furnace procs nearly every second whether we are going offensive or defensive and deals huge amounts of damage to all the enemies in our area.

Blessings of the Potentates:  This set allows us to take 5% less damage from all players abilities as long as we have it on us, so as we use this set on the back bar only, whenever we are on our back bar, we take less damage. This way, this set helps us reduce our incoming damage a lot and allows us to tank a lot more players while dealing our damage.

All points into Magicka.

Arctic Blast Deep Fissure Bird of Prey Force Pulse Inner Light Shooting Star
Elemental Blockade Blue Betty Living Trellis Shimmering Shield Ice Fortress Northern Storm

Main Bar – Destruction Staff:  Arctic Blast / Deep Fissure / Bird of Prey / Force Pulse / Inner Light / Shooting Star.

Back Bar – Destruction Staff:  Elemental Blockade / Blue Betty / Living Trellis / Shimmering Shield / Ice Fortress / Northern Storm.

Vampire vs. Mortal

We no longer play as a vampire with this build. Since the stun on the vampire drain skill has been delayed to its final tick, which makes it very very inefficient to use against experienced players or while outnumbered. Since vamprism makes us take increased damage from fire-based abilities as well as fighters guild abilities (like magDK skills, flame clench and dawnbreakers) and we no longer use any of the skill line’s active abilities, I decided vampirism gives us more downsides than upsides and hence stopped using it.

If you really want to play as a vampire with this build, you certainly can. However, keep in mind you will be taking more damage this way and surviving could become harder.

Other Important Info

Buff Food

Bewitched Sugar Skulls (Max Health, Magicka and Stamina)

The Lady: Increased Resistances

(If you wish to go more offensive, I recommend using The Mage instead for increased Max Magicka)

1: Breton: This is my favorite race for this build. Since having the cost reduction and max mag from the passives is amazing and surpass all other races, and the extra spell resistance is great to tank incoming damage.

2: Dark Elf: This race, while still gives you the very needed extra max magicka, also gives you max stamina and more spell damage. It will be slightly more difficult to sustain with this race, but your damage will surely be higher, and your stamina management will be a lot easier too.

Tri-Stat (Restore Health, Magicka and Stamina)
Bugloss, Columbine and Mountain Flower

  • Animal Companions: All
  • Winters Embrace: All
  • Green balance: All
  • Light Armor: All
  • Heavy Armor: All that don’t require 5 pieces worn.

  • Support: Combat Medic, Battle Resurrection
  • Alchemy: Medicinal Use
  • Racial: All

Resource Management & Rotation

Offensive rotation: For your offense, you want to try and have your frost skills damaging your target before anything else, then do your repetitive rotation. First cover the area with your Ice Blockade, cast your Arctic Blast, then your rotation will be Deep Fissure into several Force Pulses (and make sure to weave a light attack with them, which will also proc your enchantment), then repeat. Make sure to keep applying your Blockade and Arctic blast to ensure maximal uptime of your enemy being in those effects.

The ideal goal is to have your oppenent hit by all of the following at the same time:

  • Deep Fissure
  • Force Pulse
  • Light Attack
  • Ice Blockade
  • Arctic Blast
  • Ice Furnace (Set Proc)
  • (Optional) Northern Storm Ultimate

The burst of this rotation, when timed right, could be enough often enough on it’s own to kill your opponent with one rotation, however if they are slightly tanky, have a good healing power, or blocked your burst, you’ll have to repeat it again and keep pressuring them to go defensive. After a few rotations, you will be able to take the opponent down to 0 health.

Important note: When trying to take down an entire enemy group, it’s important to use your northern storm before the rotation. Since Northern Storm, Deep Fissure, Arctic Blast and Ice Blockade are all AoE abilities, and even Force Pulse hits 3 targets, the majority of the damage of your burst will hit all the enemy targets rather than just the one you are targetting. In addition, any of your frost damage abilities (Arctic Blast, Ice Blockade, Northern Storm or Force Pulse) will cause Ice Furnace to deal damage to EVERY enemy within 8 meters from your initial target, taking their health down even more with every second.

Defensive Rotation: First of all, you should always have Frost Cloak applied, to give you the Major Resolve buff, which increases your resistances.

You always want to try and keep the Living Trellis and Arctic Blast buffs active on you, to gain heals over time and more as you take damage. Whenever you are being pressured, you can use Arctic Blast for a burst heal (in addition to it’s heal over time) or recast Living Trellis to get it’s end effect triggered and heal you more. These skills both have a heal over time AND a burst heal part to them, so as long as you cast both, you will keep gaining more and more heals.

In addition, when you encounter enemies that attack you using ranged Magicka Projectiles, you can use Shimmering shields to prevent those from damaging you, and instead restore magicka and generate ultimate.
To top it all off, when you are being very pressured, you can use Northern Storm to apply the Major Protection buff to yourself and reduce your incoming damage even more.

As with all builds, offensive and defensive power will be maximized if you maintain your buffs on yourself and debuffs on your opponent(s).
