Beginner’s Guide to Every Legend in Apex Legends

Beginner’s Guide to Every Legend in Apex Legends

The video above is a beginner’s guide to EVERY legend in Apex Legends, covering what their abilities and passives are, as well as a quick-start guide on how to use that legend in a game of Apex! If you want to skip to a specific character, timestamps can be found below. Feel free to also refer to the written guide below the timestamps as well for a quick look at your favorite legend’s abilities and some quick tips! For more a more in depth look at your favorite legend, refer to the video above!

Timestamps

Bloodhound

Skills/Passives

Passive: Tracker

Actions made by enemies will leave behind clue markers with a timestamp to help you track them (these will eventually expire after enough time has passed).

Tactical: Eye of the Allfather

Sends out a conal pulse ahead of you, highlighting enemies, traps, and loot ticks through walls for a short time. This ability is visible to enemies, notifies them they were sensed if they were in range and makes noise.

Ultimate: Beast of the Hunt

Turns your vision black and white, shows and highlights tracks that were too long ago for your passive to sense, highlights all enemies in red, and increases your speed.

Quick Tips

  • Use Bloodhound’s tactical when breaching a building to check if there are any enemies camping in that area.
  • Bloodhound’s ultimate allows them to hunt and chase down targets very well; use it aggressively in a fight to give yourself the upper edge over your enemies.

Gibraltar

Skills/Passives

Passive: Fortified

Takes 15% less damage and is not slowed down by bullets.

Passive: Gun Shield

Aiming down sights will deploy a gun shield that protects the upper body (but will be destroyed once it takes enough damage). This shield regenerates slowly over time.

Tactical: Dome of Protection

Throws a deployable shield dome which enemies and allies can pass through it, but blocks all damage going in or out of it. In addition, the dome enables all players inside of it to use their shields or heals 25% faster.

Ultimate: Defensive Bombardment

Throw a flare that after a small delay will call down a mortar strike in a circular area.  The mortars cause a concussive effect and deal 40 damage to all enemies hit, and allies will be hit by the concussive effect if they’re in range.

Quick Tips

  • Gibraltar’s gun shield combined with the fortified passive makes him incredibly tanky, so be sure to aim down sight as much as you can to take advantage of his passive.
  • Use Gibraltar’s dome to protect yourself and allies in situations where you really need cover and/or fast healing.
  • Gibraltar’s ultimate is great for third partying or zoning enemies out of a certain area. Using it in these situations will give you the greatest value out of his ultimate!

Lifeline

Skills/Passives

Passive: Low Profile

More difficult to hit, incoming damage increased by 5%.

Passive: Combat Medic

Lifeline revives downed teammates faster than normal, and deploys an impenetrable shield wall in the direction she’s facing during revives. Lifeline’s healing items are also used 25% faster.

Tactical: D.O.C. Heal Drone

Places down a drone which heals nearby players over time.

Ultimate: Care Package

Calls down  care package containing three items: one piece of defensive gear, one healing item, and one weapon attachment.

Quick Tips

  • Lifeline is Apex Legend’s premiere healer; if that’s the role you like to fill, Lifeline will be perfect for you! Her tactical allows you to heal yourself and your allies, letting you focus on healing your shields and helping your team save flesh heals for when they really need them!
  • Her passive comes in clutch to allow her to resurrect allies with ease. In addition, the fast healing helps her stay aggressive, allowing her to quickly duck into cover, heal herself and quickly get back into the fight. Also, since Lifeline has fast healing built into her kit, level 4 body shields can be given to teammates instead!
  • Her ultimate is good for keeping you and your team well kitted during a game. Use it on cooldown, but make sure it’s in a safe area! You can also use the Care Package for some deployable cover as well!

Pathfinder

Skills/Passives

Passive: Low Profile

More difficult to hit, incoming damage increased by 5%.

Passive: Insider Knowledge

Pathfinder can use Survey Beacons located around the map (which will be indicated on the map) to learn the location of the next ring.

Tactical: Grappling Hook

Fires a projectile that explodes on impact into a cluster of smoke grenades in a horizontal line; this ability holds 2 charges.

Ultimate: Zip Lone

Creates a zip line between the location you target and wherever you’re standing.

Quick Tips

  • Pathfinder is one of if not the most mobile legends in the game because of his tactical. Learning how to properly use it and practice with it will allow you to chase people down and make it easy for you to escape. Check the video at the top of this page for more information!
  • Use Pathfinder’s passive to check survey  beacons to know where the next circle will be. Information is power in any game, so knowing where you should rotate 1 step ahead of other teams is a great thing to have!
  • Use the Zip Line to aggressively charge a team, reposition if you’re in a spot that you dont want to be in, or to get to hard-to-reach areas that teams without a Pathfinder would not be able to reach!

Wraith

Skills/Passives

Passive: Low Profile

More difficult to hit, incoming damage increased by 5%.

Passive: Voices from the Void

You will be warned by Wraith if someone aims at you or there are traps nearby. You can activate your quip button to notify teammates as well.

Tactical: Into the Void

When activated, you will enter the void for a short period of time, becoming immune to damage and invisible, but leaving a trail in your path others can see. While in the void, other players are not visible.

Ultimate: Dimensional Rift

When this skill is used, you place a a rift portal at your location and gain increased movement speed. As you move away from the first rift portal, your Rift Energy, as shown by a tracker at the top of your screen, will decrease. When you activate the ability again or the energy runs out, you will drop a second rift portal.  Any player can travel between the two portals by walking into one of them, including downed players. Note that as Wraith you can activate your tactical during the portal deployment process, and the portals will last for 60 seconds.

Quick Tips

  • Always warn your teammates when someone is aiming at you so they know to stay aloof.
  • Use Wraith’s tactical defensively if you’re about to  be hit with a grenade, to re-position, or while you are using your ultimate in a hot zone to make sure you stay safe. Note that Wraith’s tactical can also be used while she is on zip lines.
  • Wraith’s ultimate is amazing for repositioning your team and getting them out of a bad situation. If during a game you and your team are in a spot you dont want to be in, use your ultimate to get everyone out safely.

Bangalore

Skills/Passives

Passive: Double Time

Being shot at triggers a brief speed boost when running.

Tactical: Smoke Launcher

Fires a projectile that explodes on impact into a cluster of smoke grenades in a horizontal line; this ability holds 2 charges.

Ultimate: Rolling Thunder

Throw a flare that after a small delay will call down a barrage of missiles from the sky that roll across the landscape. Once all the missiles land and stick to the ground, they explode in the order in which they landed. The missiles cause a concussive effect and deal 40 damage to all enemies hit, and allies will be hit by the concussive effect if they’re in range.

Quick Tips

  • Use Bangalore’s smoke to cover you and your team while looting, retreating, ressurecting, etc. Without a digital threat, enemies will have a very hard time seeing your movements!
  • Like Gibraltar’s ultimate, Bangalore’s is great for third partying or zoning enemies out of a certain area. Using it in these situations will give you the greatest value out of her ultimate!

Caustic

Skills/Passives

Passive: Fortified

Takes 15% less damage and is not slowed down by bullets.

Passive: Nox Vision

Enemies moving through your gas will be visible to you, highlighted with a green aura.

Tactical: Nox Gas Trap

Throws down a canister trap that after a brief delay can be activated by enemies who walk near it, or if the canisters are shot by enemies or allies.  The gas blocks vision and slows allies and enemies when released, dealing 4 damage per second to enemies and ramping up by one damage per second up to a maximum of 10 per second.  Caustic can store up to three charges of this ability and have up to 6 gas traps placed at any one time. Note that enemies can disarm the traps by shooting the base of the trap.

Ultimate: Nox Gas Grenade

Throws a grenade that covers a large area in Nox Gas, with the same effects as one of Caustic’s Nox Gas Traps.

Quick Tips

  • Caustic’s gas traps are perfect for zoning enemies out of areas you dont want them to be in. You can also fill choke points/tunnels with gas, giving you and your team a huge upper hand against your opponents. His gas traps can also be used for cover, stacked on each other, or placed behind doors to prevent them from opening.
  • Caustic’s ultimate combines well with his traps, allowing you to blanket a huge area in gas. In addition, Caustic’s ultimate can used for third partying or zoning enemies out of a certain area. Using it in these situations will give you the greatest value out of his ultimate!

Mirage

Skills/Passives

Passive: Encore!

You automatically drop a decoy and go invisible for five seconds when knocked down.

Tactical: Psyche Out

This skill sends out a holographic decoy to bamboozle your enemies.  The decoy can copy a wide variety of actions you may have been performing when you activated the ability, such as running, walking while crouched, crouching, standing still, and sliding  If the decoy takes any damage, it will ping the location of the enemy that damaged it.

Ultimate: Vanishing Act

Mirage turns invisible for a short time and spawns decoys around him. While invisible, Mirage’s footsteps are still audible and the dust/dirt is still kicked up from the ground where he is walking, so enemies can still track his movement (although it is significantly  more difficult).  While invisible, you cannot do anything but move, and you can cancel out of the cloak early.  Similarly to his tactical, if any of the clones are damaged, it will ping the location of the enemy that damaged it.

Quick Tips

  • The key to success on Mirage is using his tactical intelligently. Don’t just throw out clones willy nilly – try to mimic actual player movement and behavior to try and trick opponents into shooting the clone (examples are given in the video at the top of the page).
  • Use Mirage’s ultimate to flank enemy teams or to escape tricky situations. Note that if you use his ultimate offensively, you dont have any way to escape in your kit.
  • When downed, take advantage of your invisibility and crawl to a safe area. Mirage synergizes well with the golden body shield, since he can resurrect himself in a safe spot after crawling away.
  • Try and carry 1 ultimate accelerant with you at all times. Mirage is reliant on his ultimate to escape, so having it up as much as possible will help a ton!

Octane

Skills/Passives

Passive: Swift Mend

Automatically restores a small amount of health per second. This passive is disabled  when taking damage, or during Stim’s duration, but will re-enable after a short time.

Tactical: Stim

Grants 30% move speed for a short duration at the cost of some health.

Ultimate: Launch Pad

Octane throws down a jump pad, which will launch players who step on it forward into the air in the direction they’re facing. If you stand next to the launch pad and melee it, you can send yourself directly vertical.

Quick Tips

  • Octane’s tactical allows him to move very quickly, but does cost health. Keep in mind your current HP levels to make sure you dont put yourself too low.
  • Octane’s jump pad is a powerful form of team mobility but puts you and your  team on a predictable trajectory. Be careful when using this mid fight. Note that you can press jump right when hitting the jump pad to give yourself an extra boost!

Wattson

Skills/Passives

Passive: Low Profile

More difficult to hit, incoming damage increased by 5%.

Passive: Spark of Genius

Ultimate Accelerants fully charge your ultimate, and standing near Interception Pylon speeds up the cooldown timer of Perimeter Security.

Tactical: Perimeter Security

Places down a node, which will automatically connect to other nearby nodes to generate an electric fence between them, and each node can have a maximum of 2 connections. Enemies walking through the fences take damage and are slowed, while allies walking through the field deactivate it for a brief moment. Note that shooting the base of the nodes destroys them.  Wattson can store up to 4 charges at a time, and 12 nodes can be active at the same time.

Ultimate: Interception Pylon

Places down an electrified pylon that will destroy all enemy and allied grenades (including ultimate grenades like Caustic) in a large area around it.  In addition, the pylon will recharge ally and enemy shields in the area.  You can also only have 1 pylon active at a time.

Quick Tips

  • Wattson is the queen of locking down buildings. Place her ultimate in a smart location where it can have the most benefit, and get to fencing! For more details on fence configurations, refer to the video at the top of the page.
  • While Wattson gains the most benefit inside of a building, she can also lock down areas in the open. Use large rocks/terrain to your advantage to create a small area you and your team can feel safe in!
  • Try and carry 1 ultimate accelerant with you at all times in case your ultimate gets destroyed.

Crypto

Skills/Passives

Passive: Neurolink

When Crypto’s Surveillance Drone detects an enemy near it, they’re pinged and outlined for Crypto and his allies to see.

Tactical: Surveillance Drone

The ability activates Crypto’s drone and lets it start exploring an area. Crypto’s passive and his ultimate are connected to his tactical, without the tactical his passive and ultimate can not be used. Crypto’s drone can be piloted by the player and actively moved around, or positioned somewhere as an extra set of eyes to watch a door, choke point, etc. to ping when enemies are near. The drone is highlighted in red for enemies to see, makes noise, and notifies enemies when they are sensed by the drone. If an enemy shoots down Crypto’s drone, it goes on cooldown for 40 seconds.  Crypto can also recall his drone at any time if he’d like to move it to a new location without piloting it back across a large area.

Ultimate: Drone EMP

Crypto’s Surveillance Drone emits an EMP blast that deal shield damage, slows enemies, and disables traps. Ally’s do not have their shields damaged (Crypto will though if he is caught in the blast), but are effected by the slowing effect of the EMP. Note that his ultimate expands horizontally and vertically, so you can hit people on floors above/below you inside of buildings.

Quick Tips

  • Crypto is very reliant on his drone. Be sure to place it in a spot that will give you and your team benefit, but isnt easy to just spot and shoot down.
  • Managing playing Crypto versus being in his drone is the key to being a good Crypto. You want to take advantage of his kit, but you dont want to leave your team to fight a 2v3. Balancing this will come with practice!
  • You dont have to be in your drone to use the EMP! If you have your drone in a good spot, you can use it as your  team is getting ready to charge into a building so that enemy traps and armor are destroyed/damaged the second you and your team breach!
  • Dont move your drone in a way that’s predictable; you want to make it as hard to shoot down as possible while you are piloting it!
