Welcome to the Anubis PvE Templar tank build for The Elder Scrolls Online! This build is great for all kinds of content: vet dungeons, off-tank or main tank for normal trials, and main/off-tank for veteran trials. All of the gear except the monster sets can be acquired very easily, allowing you to get up and running with it very quickly. With this build, you also have great sustain. Make sure to come back often as it will be updated after every patch!

Gear Setups

Depending on your group setup, you may want to switch out your gear. Popular options are Akaviri Dragonguard for cheaper ultimates, Alkosh for extra reduction on enemy resistances, and Plague Doctor for a higher health pool, and Brands of the Imperium for groups that need the extra survivability. Other monster sets are Blood Spawn for the ultimate generation and if you are learning mechanics or finding it hard to keep up your resistance buffs, Mighty Chudan.

Ice vs. Lightning Staff

Using an ice staff is very nice. As a templar, we don’t have an AoE root like, say, a DK. The slow given by it helps make up for that. And with all the changes, it is close to SnB in terms of blocking, so you don’t have to be scared of getting torn apart if you get caught blocking on that bar. If you are in a more organized group, though, a lightning staff will more than likely be better to help keep off-balance up. It all depends on if your DDs run inferno or lightning staffs. The drawback of using a lightning staff is that it doesn’t have the blocking passives that ice staffs or SnB have, so you have to be really careful while on that bar. So in conclusion, if you are a beginner or your DDs are running lightning staffs, an ice staff will be better. If your DDs are running inferno staffs and you are experienced, a lightning staff will be better. I would just keep one of each with you so it’s an easy switch.

What your attribute distribution is going to look like is based on the race you choose. You should have at least 30k health, but no more than 40k health unless you’re in a fight that needs high health. After that, dump the rest into stamina.

Main Bar

  • Pierce Armor
  • Heroic Slash
  • Radiant Ward
  • Repentance
  • Extended Ritual
  • Ultimate: FLEX: Replenishing Barrier/Solar Disturbance/Empowering Sweep

Back Bar

  • Elemental Blockade
  • Inner Rage
  • Restoring Focus
  • FLEX: Honor the Dead/Ritual of Rebirth
  • Silver Leash
  • Ultimate: Aggressive Horn

Flex Choices

  • Replenishing Barrier vs Solar Disturbance vs Empowering Sweep:
    • Normally, you will be using War Horn, so this spot doesn’t matter much. I keep Barrier slotted for the extra magicka regen, and it’s a nice ultimate to use if your group is in trouble. Solar Disturbance applies Major Maim to enemies, which is a huge damage reduction. Empowering Sweep is very cheap and the damage reduction to you is nice. Which you use is truly up to you. NOTE: If you go with Empowering Sweep, put War Horn on your front bar and put this on your back bar to get the Aedric Spear passives on both bars.
  • Honor the Dead vs Ritual of Rebirth
    • I use this spot for self-heals. Honor the Dead heals you or an ally, and it restores 60% of its cost over time if you heal anyone under 75% health, making it pretty cheap too. Ritual of Rebirth is very expensive, but it also heals everyone in its radius and an additional ally outside the radius, making it a nice option too. You will just have to be very careful to not overuse it if choose it.

Resource Management & Rotation

Because it’s a tank build, there really isn’t a rotation. You’ll just want to make sure you keep up your buffs up. Also, you pretty well always use Warhorn. Barrier is there for the extra magicka recovery and is only used as an “Oh, shoot!” button.
