5 Best Gaming Glasses That Block Blue Light in 2022

5 Best Gaming Glasses That Block Blue Light in 2022

Nowadays, people are spending hours and hours on their electronic devices, whether it be on a computer at work, gaming at home, or just on their phones. We are using electronic devices now more than ever before. Along with that increased use, comes increased exposure to artificial blue light. When exposed to this type of light over time, it can lead to digital eye strain, which can cause headaches and other sensitivities – such as disruption your circadian rhythm (the body’s natural sleep cycle) – when continuing to utilize electronic devices. According to the Vision Council of America, “70% of U.S. adults experience digital eye strain as a result of increasing use of digital devices.” Just like having a good gaming chair is important for the health of your back while gaming, getting a good pair of gaming glasses can help your eyes with the long hours spent in front of screens, and are well worth the investment for your optical health.

Digital eye strain was something I personally suffered from for a long time. Working in an office creating content online as a YouTuber and Twitch streamer, and just using my phone was causing me to put more screen-time in than ever before. My eye strain got so bad I wasnt even able to look at my phone without getting a headache. I tried using software blue-light reduction solutions which had no effect, tried buying different monitors, having my optometrist put certain coatings on my prescription glasses to help; nothing worked – until I purchased computer glasses. Like any other product today, it can be tough knowing what the best gaming glasses are for blue light reduction since there are just so many options. This article will go over my top 5 favorite blue light glasses for gaming, and explain which pairs I think are the best.

GUNNAR

Gunnar Optics Intercept Gaming Glasses

GUNNAR is going to kick of the list as my #1 choice for gaming and computer glasses. GUNNAR is the only patented gaming and computer eyewear recommended by doctors to protect and enhance your vision. GUNNAR blue light glasses are designed to combat most of the side effects of digital eye strain, including: headaches, dry eyes, blurry vision, glare, negative effects of artificial blue light, eye strain and fatigue. They have a wide variety of lens colors as well, depending on how much color distortion is a factor to you, offering 4 different levels of lenses:

  1. Clear (35% blue light reduction): For protection without the amber tint.
  2. Amber (65% blue light reduction): For optimal protection and performance
  3. Sun (90% blue light reduction): For protection from digital screens in sunlit environments
  4. Amber Max (98% blue light reduction): Max protection and improved sleep for nighttime screen use

GUNNAR’s glasses can also come as a prescription or non-prescription solution. The Rx glasses will cost a bit more, but their glasses are still significantly cheaper than most prescription computer glasses you can get from an optometrist. In addition, ordering a pair of prescription glasses is extremely easy: simply purchase a pair of frames that accept their Rx lenses, upload a picture of your prescription while checking out and the glasses will be made with your prescription in them! I’ve personally owned a pair of GUNNAR’s prescription amber Intercept glasses and I absolutely loved them and had 0 issues with them. GUNNAR offering an affordable prescription solution for gaming glasses is one of the primary reasons they sit at the top of my list here, since most of the gaming and blue-light glasses you’ll find out there are non-prescription only.

In addition, all of their gaming glasses have the following as standard features:

  • Proprietary patented GUNNAR lens material and tint
  • Blocks harmful blue light and 100% UV light
  • Anti-reflective lens coatings on front and back of lens

GUNNAR also offers a wide selection of glasses for a variety of facial shapes and types. The best part is that on their website, you can do a “virtual try-on” to see what the glasses would look like on you using augmented reality, giving you an idea of how they’ll fit your face and if its a look that you’ll enjoy! Overall, GUNNAR offers a fantastic selection of Rx and non-Rx gaming glasses at a reasonable price, and you cant go wrong with a pair of their glasses.

Blue Shark Optics

Blue Shark Optics Aristocrat Glasses

Blue Shark Optics’ lenses, according to their website, “stop over 90% of blue light and 100% of UV light without Color Distortion,” making them some of the best computer glasses in the industry. Blue Shark Optics are the computer glasses that I am currently using, and I can tell you from my experiences wearing them for close to 2 years now, they work well. The difference having this much blue light reduction made compared to the software solutions I tried was staggering, and I noticed significant improvement in my ability to stay on my PC for a long period of time. In addition, the glasses themselves dont have the same amber tint that the GUNNAR glasses have, offering a high level of blue light protection and color clarity in a discreet pair of lenses. Blue Shark Optics offers a variety of unisex glasses that look aesthetically pleasing and will look great on most people! The biggest con to Blue Shark Optics is that most of their blue-light computer glasses are non-prescription only. While you technically can get a pair of prescription glasses from the company (which I do have), they only have one frame option, and their blue light filtering Aspis lenses only come as a clip-on frame and are not a part of the Rx lenses themselves. So while they work well, I personally feel that if you want a prescription option, GUNNAR is the superior choice.  If you do decide to pick up a pair of Blue Shark Optics and want so save some money, click the button below to shop their selection and use coupon code DOTTZ at checkout to save 10%!

HyperX Gaming Glasses

HyperX Spectre Stealth Glasses

HyperX is a giant in the gaming space, and they have their own line of blue-light gaming glasses as well. The HyperX Spectre Stealth glasses have ultra-thin, stainless steel temples and flex hinges to provide a better fit for a wide variety of head sizes and when worn underneath a headset, which to me is a massive pro. Wearing glasses with a headset for long hours can be very uncomfortable, so the fact that these were designed with that in mind is a big plus. The lenses in these glasses will filter out blue light, reducing the effects of digital eye strain including headaches, blurred vision, and eye fatigue. The premium, crystal clear nylon lenses are designed to reduce color distortion, so you get the intended gaming experience without any of the color distortion that comes with the amber lens options. These dont come in a prescription option, and HyperX doesnt appear to showcase as much blue light reduction as Blue Shark Optics or GUNNAR, however, these are a fantastic set of gaming glasses for a mid-level price that will not only filter out blue light, but will be comfortable with a headset, making them a good choice for any gamer who doesnt specifically need prescription lenses.

Horus X Gaming Glasses

Horus X Blue-Light Blocking Glasses

The Horus X Gaming glasses come in a bit cheaper than the HyperX option, but still share some similarities. The glasses are made with a lightweight frame that sits comfortably on your face, and the glasses are designed for optimal comfort even with a gaming headset on. They have a very similar appearance to that of GUNNAR’s Intercepts, which gives you can extremely good field of vision through the lenses. The Horus X gaming glasses sport some fantastic stats for their blue light reduction, filtering 100% of UV rays (A, B and C), 100% filtration of blue light [400nm], and filtering 86% of harmful rays [spectrum 380nm-450nm]. These glasses however have 2 primary downsides: similarly to many of the glasses on the list, these do not come in a prescription option, and the amber tinted lenses are not for everyone. So, if color clarity is important to you, you may want to skip these. However, if you’re looking for a cheaper pair of gaming glasses that have some great blue-light reducing properties, these are a solid option.

Benicci Blue-Light Glasses

Benicci Blue-Light Glasses

The Benicci blue-light glasses are going to round out the list here today as my super-budget choice. You can get a pair of these gaming glasses cheap on Amazon for less that $20. For the price, you’re getting a lot of value. These glasses offer the protection you’d expect from a pair of blue light gaming glasses: they help reduce eye fatigue, minimize headaches, block blue light and UV rays and have an anti-glare coating on the lenses. While typically I would be a bit skeptical of these, the glasses have nearly 8 thousand reviews on Amazon with a rating of 4.5 with 72% five star reviews, clearly making them a great choice for blue light gaming glasses on a tight budget. Similarly to other glasses on the list, these (obviously) do not come with prescription lenses. In addition, I’d keep in mind that you are buying a $20 pair of glasses, so they wont be as high-quality as some of the others on the list. But like I said, if you need gaming glasses on a budget, these will do the job!
