Welcome to’s Warden Tank PvE Build, the Wall, for the Elder Scrolls Online! This build is intended for all levels of PvE: trials, dungeons, and general PvE.  The warden tank is often scoffed at when compared to its dragon knight counterpart. Little do many people know, the warden is a fantastic tank and does just about everything the dragon knight does. The only thing we do not bring that the dragon knight does is molten armaments. The Warden is a more defensive option and I believe it to be a better class for new tanks!

NOTES:  This patch we are going to change things up a bit! We are moving more towards a meta tank gearing. We don’t need to have all of the HP we wanted last patch because of the upcoming changes to block. With the reduction in cost as well as changes to shield play enchants, we can have more sustain with less effort.

5 Torug’s Pact and 5 Ebon. Very meta tank. I am not too sure how the changes with synergies is going to work out, but you can still run Alkosh, Dragonguard or any other tanking set you chose!

Monster set(s) of choice, Bloodspawn in a perfect world, 2 one piece of resists for a lower dps group, engine guardian if you have resource troubles! The new monster set I have been playing with is Swarm Mothers, I use this to pull mobs to me via the range taunt, and it works very well.

Back Bar – 1h/Shield: Frozen device/Inner Rage, Arctic Blast, Gripping Shards, Deceptive predator, Lotus blossom and Aggressive horn

Skill Explanations

We need pierce armor because this is our main taunt, it also applies major fracture and breach to the mob that we hit.

Our next ability will be, absorb magic. We mostly used for the passive the ability brings, you can use the active should you think you need it.

Bull netch is our third ability on our front bar. If you read the tooltip you may think this ability in kind of stupid, you would be wrong to think this. Much like engine guardian, the netch will beam resources to you, giving you stamina while you are blocking, thus giving you, stamina regen while blocking.

Ice fortress is OP. This is lord warden for your whole team on a 30 second ability. Also, this give you a flat 8% damage reduction on top of your resists and block.

Heroic slash is a great ability to keep bosses from one-shotting your team, it also will help you generate ultimate.

Font bar ultimate can be one of two things, permafrost or enchanted forest. Permafrost is typically my go to ability because having that winter’s embrace ability gives us a bit more resists as well as being able to freeze everything it hits. Enchanted forest is what you use when you need to have more self-reliance, ie bad healer or the axes on AA.

Our back bar is where we need to explain a bit more. Our first ability will be either frozen device or inner fire. You want to use frozen device when you’re fighting trash or big pacts where you need to be pulling mobs together. If you are fighting bosses or many mobs where you cannot pull them, use this ability.

Gripping shards is the warden version on gripping talons. Upon reading the tooltip you won’t see the minor maim that this ability provided via chilled.

Arctic blast is our self-heal, it gives back 10% max hp instantly as well as healing 2% of our max hp every two seconds for the next ten. Arctic blast also hits everyone with frost damage and applying chilled.

This patch we are running Lotus Blossom. This ability is fantastic! I have changed from an Imperial to an Argonian and this gives us tons of on-hit healing. Because we are light attacking more with our Turog’s Pact set, we take advantage of the healing so much more! We want the magicka morph because we can get critical healing from Arctic Blast as well as that and Gripping shards being our only real damaging abilities. Also with passives in Green Balance we can get up to 40k HP.

Our last non-ultimate ability is deceptive predator. We use this because we gain major expedition letting us, the tank, be the first to the fight. This also gives us major endurance, an almost dead buff. Maybe the best part about this ability is the minor evasion, this is almost like having hist bark, but on an ability.

The second ultimate will be aggressive horn. I shouldn’t have to explain why we use this as a tank. It’s a staple because it offers a huge stat increase to the group.

Atronach – Magicka Recovery

We will need magicka regen because we are using double sword and shield.  We don’t have a means to regen via heavy attack.

Trash pots baby! When I play my warden, I don’t find myself using any potions. You could use immovability potions if you can justify the cost.


Class (all), Heavy Armor (all), Medium Armor (all except the ones that require 5 pieces of gear), 1 hand and Shield (all), Fighters Guild (Banish the Wicked), Undaunted (all), Racial (all), Alchemy (Medicinal Use)

Resource Management & Rotation

As a tank you only need to worry about keeping your buffs up and the mobs CC’d. I have put all of the buffs on the backbar, alloying us to stay on one bar to keep things simple.

LA, Lotus Blossom, LA, Deceptive Predator, LA, Gripping Shards, LA Arctic Blast

That’s your buff application rotation. Other than this, we are sitting on our front bar blocking and taunting.

Tips & Misc.

This build is great for newer tank players! Remember you can gear your warden the same as your dragonknight.
